Multiple budgets is a Pro feature. A single Pro subscription lets you own and switch between up to 5 budgets — your own household budget plus separate ones you set up for someone else, like a kid or a college student you're teaching to budget. Each budget is completely separate (its own categories, transactions, plans, goals), and one Pro subscription covers all of them — there's no per-budget charge.
Free accounts get 1 budget. Upgrade from Settings → Subscription to run more.
How this is different from Family Sharing
They're two sides of the same coin:
- Family Sharing = many people, one budget. You and your spouse both work in the household budget together.
- Multiple Budgets = one person, many budgets. You keep your own budget and also run a separate "teaching" budget for your kid.
You'll often use both: create a second budget for your kid, then use Family Sharing to invite them into that budget as an editor so they have their own login.
Creating and switching budgets
- Open Settings → Budgets.
- Tap New budget, name it, and create it — it starts with the default categories and becomes active.
- To switch budgets anytime, open the budget switcher in the user menu (tap your avatar, top-right). Pick any budget and the whole app switches to it.
Your active budget is remembered across devices.
Teaching a kid or student
A common setup:
- Create a budget named after the learner.
- While it's active, open Settings → Family Sharing and invite them by email — they accept and get their own login as an editor.
- They manage their money in their budget; you can switch in anytime to coach. Your Pro subscription covers their budget — they don't pay anything.
Transferring a budget (e.g. when they graduate)
When the learner is ready to go independent, transfer the budget to them:
- Settings → Budgets, find the budget, tap the transfer icon.
- Pick them from the member list and confirm.
They become the owner; you become an editor (and can leave if you like). Heads-up: once they own it, the budget follows their plan — if they're on the free tier, that budget drops to free limits right away (existing data is kept; new family invites are blocked until they go Pro).
Archiving a budget
Done with a budget but don't want to lose it? Archive it from Settings → Budgets. Archiving:
- Frees up one of your 5 slots.
- Hides it from the switcher.
- Keeps all the data — nothing is deleted. Restore it anytime (as long as you're under your budget limit).
You can't archive your only active budget.
Limits
- Pro required for more than one. Free = 1 budget, Pro = up to 5 owned budgets.
- Each budget still supports up to 5 members via Family Sharing, independently.
- Archived budgets don't count toward your 5; restoring re-checks the limit.
Privacy
Each budget is isolated — members of one budget can't see another. Switching budgets only changes what you see; it never exposes one budget's data to another budget's members. See the Privacy Policy for details.
